Sirika pledged continuous support for NiMet to meet the needs of Nigerians and the President.

 The Honourable Minister of Aviation disclose this earlier today at the event “2021 Seasonal Climate Prediction: Supporting the Economy Cope with the Challenges of COVID-19 Global Pandemic in Nigeria” organized by Nigerian Metrological Agency in Abuja.

his remark revealed that ministry of Aviation is the worst affected by COVID-19 in 2020 and up to this moment". He pledged continuous support for NiMet to meet the needs of Nigerians and the President.

Sirika disclosed that the change from SRP to SCP is to reflect more climate variables from research and urged that the information present in the document should be utilized to the utmost in line with our national commitment.

In his remark, the honourable Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika commended all past Director Generals of Nigerian Metrological Agency and the present DG Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi and the entire staff for building the agency to an enviable height and sustaining a legacy of excellence.

The Royal Father of the day and Emir of Gombe HRH Alhaji Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, in his good will message, urged the general public and farmers in particular to give NiMet their full support.

Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Sabo Nanono calls for the need for urgent corporation between NiMet and the Ministry of Agriculture. He noted the unusual weather pattern for last year and called for the adoption of climate smart agriculture He commended NiMet.

HRH Alhaji Ibrahim Jibril Usman, Emir of Nassarawa, in his good will message commended the Honourable Minister of Aviation Hadi Sirika and the DG Nimet Prof. Sani Abubakar Mashi for an excellent work. He urged farmers and the general public to take the prediction serious.

As part of the presentation, NiMet launched its weather App called the SCP e-application.

National Carrier, Airport Concession, New Terminals Beckon

 Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said the Federal Government would deliver a new national carrier- Nigeria Air – in 2021. Sirika said adequate preparations had been made and that N78.96 billion had been budgeted in the 2021 Appropriation Bill to implement the plan for a new national carrier, among other projects. The establishment of the national carrier, he said, would be carried out in partnership with the private sector. He said: “In 2021, the sum of N78.960 billion is being proposed for capital expenditure at the headquarters in the aviation ministry and the emphasis will focus on the implementation of the Aviation Roadmap as directed by Mr. President. “The roadmap would be implemented through Public Private Partnership (PPP), topmost of which will be the establishment of a national carrier”.  BUHARI APPROVES REORGANIZATIONS, NEW APPOINTMENTS IN AVIATION AGENCIES  In line with the administration’s commitment to the implementation of the Aviation Development Roadmap, President Mohammadu Buhari has approved some reorganizations within the Agencies under Federal Ministry of Aviation. Consequently, he has approved the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET). He replaces Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi. Professor Matazu holds a PhD in Geography (Applied Meteorology), with membership of the Nigerian Environmental Society, African Forestry Forum, Nigerian Meteorological Society, the Climate Change Network, Nigeria and the renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Nigeria (REEN).
