PROF.. SANI MASHI'S BIOGRAPHY

 Prof Sani Abubakar Mashi is a specialist in the environmental application of remote sensing and the current Director-General / CEO Nigerian Meteorological Agency. He is the Permanent Representative of Nigeria and Member of Executive Council to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).


He was previously the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), University of Abuja. He is currently a Member Technical Advisory Council, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA). He also served as the Coordinator (Director-General) and Chief Executive of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council.

Prof Sani Abubakar Mashi was born on the 27th of February 1964 in katsina, katsina state, Nigeria. He attended Bayero University, Kano from 1984-1988; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1990-1994 and Bayero University, Kano from 1995 – 1998, for his BSc, MSc, and PhD.


He started his career as a Geography Teacher at Amuye CAC High School, Owo, Ondo State where he was posted for the National Youths Service from 1st Sept. 1988 to Aug. 1989.

Shortly after his NYSC, Sani Abubakar Mashi was appointed Graduate Assistant in Geography, at the Department of Geography, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on the l2h of Nov. 1989 where he rose to Lecturer II on 5 Dec. 1999

Mashi transferred his services to the Department of Geography, University of Abuja, Nigeria in 2000 as Lecturer I where he rose to become an Associate Professor of Geography on 10 March 2007 and Professor of Geography on 12 October 2008.


Prof Sani Abubakar Mashi was On Sabbatical at the Department of Geography, Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2007 where he served as Ag. Head, Department of Geography from 11 May 2007 to October 2007


He has served the University of Abuja in different capacities. They include Deputy Director (Academic), Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education, University of Abuja; M.Sc & PhD Programmes Coordinator

Prof Sani Abubakar Mashi served between 14 March 2009 to May 2010 as Nigeria Coordinator (Director-General) & Chief Executive Officer of Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Federal Capital Territory Administration, Abuja.

He was drafted to the Geography Department, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, as Professor of Geography (On Secondment) from 2010 to 2014 where he was Head, Dept of Geography; Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied sciences; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).


Prof Sani Abubakar Mashi returned to the University of Abuja in 2014 and was immediately appointed as Director of Academic Planning. He was appointed as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University on 22 February 2015.

National Carrier, Airport Concession, New Terminals Beckon

 Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said the Federal Government would deliver a new national carrier- Nigeria Air – in 2021. Sirika said adequate preparations had been made and that N78.96 billion had been budgeted in the 2021 Appropriation Bill to implement the plan for a new national carrier, among other projects. The establishment of the national carrier, he said, would be carried out in partnership with the private sector. He said: “In 2021, the sum of N78.960 billion is being proposed for capital expenditure at the headquarters in the aviation ministry and the emphasis will focus on the implementation of the Aviation Roadmap as directed by Mr. President. “The roadmap would be implemented through Public Private Partnership (PPP), topmost of which will be the establishment of a national carrier”.  BUHARI APPROVES REORGANIZATIONS, NEW APPOINTMENTS IN AVIATION AGENCIES  In line with the administration’s commitment to the implementation of the Aviation Development Roadmap, President Mohammadu Buhari has approved some reorganizations within the Agencies under Federal Ministry of Aviation. Consequently, he has approved the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET). He replaces Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi. Professor Matazu holds a PhD in Geography (Applied Meteorology), with membership of the Nigerian Environmental Society, African Forestry Forum, Nigerian Meteorological Society, the Climate Change Network, Nigeria and the renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Nigeria (REEN).
