Nigeria’s airports NAIA, PHIA, MMIA get ACI Health accreditation certificate

AIRPORTS Council International (ACI) has accredited three of Nigeria’s International Airports, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa and Murtala Muhammed international Airport Lagos in its Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation Programme.

The Airport health accreditation programme is designed to assess how aligned airports health measures are with the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Restart Task Force recommendations along with industry best practices.

Both the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Port Harcourt International Airport and Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos have become the 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively to be accredited in this programme.

This follows efforts by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), led by the Managing Director, Capt. Hamisu Yadudu, and the Management team to ensure the safety and security of all travelers and Airport users.

FAAN recently beefed up safety protocols at all Airports, following the new wave of Covid-19, and a monitoring team was set up for each Airport to drive total compliance. This is in line with the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation Programme, which is designed to reassure the travelling public of the safe precautions being taken to reduce any risks to their health as well as maintaining secure Airport Facilities.

National Carrier, Airport Concession, New Terminals Beckon

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika said the Federal Government would deliver a new national carrier- Nigeria Air – in 2021. Sirika said adequate preparations had been made and that N78.96 billion had been budgeted in the 2021 Appropriation Bill to implement the plan for a new national carrier, among other projects. The establishment of the national carrier, he said, would be carried out in partnership with the private sector. He said: “In 2021, the sum of N78.960 billion is being proposed for capital expenditure at the headquarters in the aviation ministry and the emphasis will focus on the implementation of the Aviation Roadmap as directed by Mr. President. “The roadmap would be implemented through Public Private Partnership (PPP), topmost of which will be the establishment of a national carrier”. BUHARI APPROVES REORGANIZATIONS, NEW APPOINTMENTS IN AVIATION AGENCIES In line with the administration’s commitment to the implementation of the Aviation Development Roadmap, President Mohammadu Buhari has approved some reorganizations within the Agencies under Federal Ministry of Aviation. Consequently, he has approved the appointment of Professor Bako Mansur Matazu as the new Director-General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET). He replaces Professor Sani Abubakar Mashi.
